Sacraments                                                                Living the Sacraments at St. Dominic

 Baptism:
For infants, Baptism at St. Dominic is ordinarily celebrated on Sundays. First-time expectant parents are required to attend a pre-baptismal preparation program to update their knowledge of this life-giving sacrament and examine their own faith in light of sharing this faith with a newborn. The program emphasizes that Baptism unites us with Christ and welcomes new Christi
ans into the community. Volunteers are needed to assist in this wonderful preparation program for parents.
For adults, the Sacrament of Baptism is celebrated at Easter Vigil as part of the Rite of Christian Initiation for Adults (RCIA). This faith formation process begins in the fall and continues until Easter with weekly meetings.

Confirmation:
Confirmation is one of three sacraments of initiation open to all parish members of high school age and above. The preparation process for high school students starts in the fall and Confirmation is conferred by the Bishop in the spring. The process is led by a confirmation team composed of adult volunteers who assist in program planning and meet with the candidates throughout the year. There are many reasons why some adult Catholics have never been confirmed. For those individuals who have been baptized Roman Catholic yet not confirmed in their faith, a special program is held each winter to prepare individuals to celebrate this Sacrament in our community. For adults who have been baptized in another Christian tradition, preparation for the Sacrament takes place as part of the RCIA process.

First Eucharist:
Our parish children celebrate the Sacrament of First Communion in the spring of their second grade year in the elementary school and PSR programs. The First Eucharist program is centered in the family and prepares children for this sacred meal of our faith. Through parent and child meetings, the family is offered support and education in preparation for the Sacrament. Volunteers, especially those who don’t have children in preparation for the Sacrament, are needed to hlep with Jesus Day, First Eucharist Mass practice and the dinner offered for the children and their parents.
The RCIA Process prepares interested adult parishioners for full communion with the church, therefore the sacrament is celebrated for the first time at Easter Vigil.
