A medical clinic supported by Santo Domingo Church provides healthcare to the people of Chiltiupan and nearby cantons (villages.) A Salvadoran doctor, nurse, and assistant operate the clinic. St. Dominic parishioners pay the salaries of the staff as well as provide funding for much needed prescription drugs. The Santo Domingo Clinic charges each patient $3 per visit and provides free prescriptions. St. Dominic pays the fee for those that cannot afford $3.
In addition, St. Dominic sends an annual medical delegation to Chiltiupan to assist the Clinic in screening and treating sick patients at the clinic and in the cantons. We typically screen and treat 800 patients on a five day trip. Doctors, nurses, and medical professionals with experience in primary care, pediatrics, or internal medicine are encouraged to join us. Female OBGYN’s are especially needed.
Members of the Medical Clinic Committee have been able to donate medical supplies and funds to purchase needed medicines and equipment. Our parishioners’ extensive ties with the Cleveland Clinic, University Hospital, and other medical institutions in the Cleveland area provide a positive impact on the health of the people of Chiltiupan.
