Project Serve has given hundreds of St. Dominic parishioners the opportunity to put their faith into action through service to the local and global community. Almost every week, members of St. Dominic can be found volunteering in various agencies around the city. St. Dominic parishioners use their time and talents to make a huge impact in the Cleveland area.
Through the generosity of our parishioners, Project Serve has also been able to make financial contributions to our partner agencies, enabling them even more effectively serve those in need. The first Sunday of each month we take a collection that is used to help our various partner organizations and groups who are serving those in need in the Cleveland area.
We strongly encourage all members of St. Dominic to continue donating their time, talent, and treasure so that our community can say truthfully that we are “a Eucharistic family living the mission of Christ.”

The 37 bedroom facility accommodates families from all over the United States and around the world. The team of volunteers from St. Dominic cooks and serves the meal once a month on Saturday and provides general support for the House on a Sunday evening once a month. The mission of the Cleveland Foodbank, located at 15500 South Waterloo Rd., is to alleviate hunger by providing food and support to community organizations that feed the hungry. The Foodbank serves as a clearinghouse for donated and rescued food in the Cleveland area.
Every 3rd Thursday of the month, St. Dominic parishioners go to the Cleveland Foodbank to help organize boxes of food to be sent to local food pantries and other service organizations. It is a great way to give back and to serve with others from the St. Dominic community.

The Thea Bowman Center, located a few miles west of St. Dominic just off Chagrin Blvd., is an organization whose mission is to be an ongoing beacon of hope to the Mount Pleasant community. The West Side Catholic Center, located across the street from St. Ignatius High School, provides services to some of the most disadvantaged people in the city. The center functions as a drop-in-center, an advocacy agency, and a place to get a decent meal. One Saturday a month two groups from St. Dominic volunteer at the West Side Catholic Center. One group serves the breakfast that day and the other serves the dinner. Volunteering at the West Side Catholic Center is a great way to directly serve those in need with others from St. Dominic.

The center has about 110 residents, all of them adults. The residents have a range of developmental and mental disabilities. Some residents are there as a time of transition, others have been there long term. This is the only religious service currently offered at the center, so there is a great need for this ministry! Volunteers participate in a Mass with residents led by Fr. Tom, then build fellowship by helping with a snack and a craft.
The mission of the St. Dominic Helping Hands Ministry is to serve those in need in our local area. Helping Hands does this in a variety of ways. First, when residents of Shaker Heights, both parishioners and non-parishioners, come to St. Dominic with emergency needs Helping Hands assesses the person’s situation and then offers them assistance if it is necessary. Assistance comes in the form of donations of items such as gift cards to grocery stores, but also in the form of referrals to governmental and nonprofit programs that might be of benefit to the person. Helping Hands is designed to give one time assistance to individuals in need, not to provide long term assistance. Helping Hands also sponsors major collections both during Advent and Lent. These collections benefit individual families in the area as well as our Project Serve Partner Agencies. The group meets the first Monday of every month at 7:00 PM in the Small Meeting Room at St. Dominic. Feel free to come and check us out to see if you are interested in participating on an ongoing basis.
