Serve

Church of st. dominic

Living the mission of Christ – at St. Dominic that means caring for our parish community as well as others in need. Whether you are called to provide meals to sick parishioners, sing in the choir, connect with our brothers and sisters in Chiltiupan, El Salvador, or serve in some other way, your time, treasure, and talent are always needed and valued.

Do you have an hour a week to serve and connect with other parishioners? Consider joining one of St. Dominic’s caring ministries:

  • Ministry of Praise: Members pray one hour every week for specific members of the St. Dominic community. You will receive quarterly updates about the people who have requested prayers, including the sick and new parish families. A great way to be involved from home!
  • Meal Ministry: Members prepare and deliver meals to individuals and families going through stressful situations such as hospitalization/serious illness, death or birth/adoption.
  • Homebound Visits: Members bring companionship and the Eucharist to parishioners who are unable to attend Mass due to hospitalizations, recovery from surgery/illness or some seniors who just cannot leave their home. Visit times and frequency are up to you.

For more information or to volunteer, contact: Jen Deshpande: 216-337-3449 or jdeshpande@stdominicchurch.net.

In addition to attending as part of the congregation, parishioners are invited to participate in Mass by volunteering to be:

  • Eucharistic Ministers
  • Lectors
  • Altar Servers
  • Ushers

St. Dominic Music Ministry offers many opportunities for parishioners of varied ages and abilities to participate in our vibrant music program. Interested singers can share their musical talents by joining our Adult Choir, Teen Choir (Grades 9-12), or Youth Choir (Grades 3 thru 8). Experienced instrumentalists are also welcome!

Project Serve provides hundreds of St. Dominic parishioners with an avenue to put our faith into action through service to our local community.  We volunteer weekly at various greater Cleveland agencies and organizations, seeking the face of Christ in the least of our sisters and brothers.  Through the generosity of our parishioners, Project Serve also makes financial contributions to our partner agencies, enabling them to more effectively serve those in need.  On the first Sunday of each month we take a special collection to support and fund these programs; we also collect needed items for local agencies.

Since 2004, St. Dominic has developed a strong relationship with our sister parish, Santo Domingo, in Chiltiupan, El Salvador.  Our goal is to live in solidarity with our Salvadoran friends so that we may see the face of Christ in them, in ourselves, and in all whom we meet.  We seek to strengthen the bonds of friendship between our two parishes through mission trips and parish initiatives that support faith-based relationships, education, financial independence, and healthcare in Chiltiupan.

Additional volunteer opportunities include:

  • Ministry to the Cleveland Poor: home visits for material and spiritual support of the disadvantaged in our community
  • Project Serve Express: delivering donated items to local agencies and organizations
  • Faithful Citizenship: educates and advocates on issues of peace, justice, and human rights in our community and world.  >>Learn More
  • Regular teen service opportunities are available through the Youth Ministry program.
